America Ferrera became an instant hit with audiences thanks to her starring role in the TV show Ugly Betty; a show that has done its share to expose the hypocrisy and the negative effects of the modern, appearance-obsessed society.
Of course, due to the fact that she was never a standard-fit supermodel, America became the target of many unfair and outright nasty attacks from those who expect every female TV star to look like a 70-pound model from an unpronounceable country in Eastern Europe. Glamour magazine was perhaps the most hypocritical towards America, giving her an underhanded compliment about being curvy and then Photoshopping half of her body out of the photos that went with the interview.
America also sometimes finds herself in a weird situation where she is almost afraid to lose weight, worrying that people might think she is no longer comfortable with her figure.
