2. Alanis Morissette

Alanis Morissette is a celeb that isn’t afraid to speak (or sing) her mind. Perhaps that’s because she grew up speaking for two. Alanis is older than her twin brother Wade Morissette by twelve whole minutes. This fact only pushed Wade to try and accomplish more than his big sister, so he recorded three music albums, became a yoga instructor and therapist, writing several books on the subject.

I guess that his trip to India left a big impression at a critical age. He still continues to write music and books, mostly about meditation and yoga. His music is mostly indie rock with yoga influences. After his big trip to India, he started teaching yoga in 1995 and completed Iyengar, AshtangaVinyasa Yoga and Classical Ashtanga. He is a certified Reiki master, Phoenix Rising yoga therapist and VinyogaThearapist. Also, he has studied Vinyasa, ViniyogaAnusara and Kriya yoga.

With some of the best meditations gurus in Canada he studied zazen, Vedic chanting, and active movement. He now holds trainings for teachers, retreats, workshops and music-dance international evenings.

About his chanting, mantras and meditations, he says, “From a beginner’s point of view, the chanting and the repetition of Sanskrit (an ancient language of India) phrases could be a replacement or enhancement of a traditional form of focusing on your breath. Meditating requires one to focus on the subtleties of breathing, whereas chanting requires more presence and a focus on sound. Some people find it hard to sit in meditation for long periods of time. For those, I would definitely recommend mantra work because it’s slightly easier than pure meditation.”

Now he is one of the most sought-after yoga instructors and musicians in North America. He also famous for adding a humorous tone to his classes and music.
