Making nerds cool again, Jaleel captured everyone’s hearts in the comedy Family Matters. Since then, he’s graduated from UCLA and has had several small parts in movies and television shows. He’s now the host of Total Blackout.

Jaleel White was born on November 27, 1976 in Pasadena, California, USA as Jaleel Ahmad White. Attended Henry E. Huntington Middle School in San Marino, California. He is most known for Family Matters (1989), Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (1993) and Sonic Underground (1999). He was also cast for the role in the Cosby Show, but Cosby changed the character to a girl.

Midway through the first season, Family Matters introduced the Winslows’ nerdy neighbor Steve Urkel who was played by Jaleel White. The character quickly became very popular and eventually the show’s main character.

His glasses, held together by white tape in the middle, soon became legendary. The character, which was originally intended to be a one-time guest appearance, soon became the most popular. During the last season of Family Matters, he was receiving $ 180, 000 per episode.

Since the show ran for nine seasons, Family Matters is the second longest-running U.S. sitcom which portrayed a predominantly African American cast; The Jeffersons is the first one, which aired for 11 seasons, and also featured Jaleel White.

He’s not only a great comedian, he’s a talented short story writer and a cartoonist. He enjoys making homemade ice cream so much, that he even considered doing it professionally when he was a teenager.

White once said “I’ve been in this business 31 years. I’ve never had a movie deal.”
