When we think of celebrities, we can’t help but think they were all born in New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, or some similar celebrity-packed place. The truth is, however, that many of the celebrities we know and love actually come from much smaller cities and have moved to where they are now under various circumstances. This time, we will focus on famous people who call Iowa their home.

Without further ado, here’s a list of 21 stars who come from this great state:

1. Elijah Wood

The one and only Frodo Baggins comes from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Elijah began his acting career as a child, landing roles in films like Back to the Future II, Paradise, and The Good Son. His mother, Donna, was the one who got him into modeling and he quickly managed to charm everyone around him with his sky-blue eyes. In 1989, he landed a major professional gig, appearing in the music video for Paula Abdul’s “Forever Your Girl.”

After a couple more years of acting, Wood reached his landmark moment when he was cast as the Hobbit Frodo Baggins, the lead character of Peter Jackson’s epic adaptation of The Lord of the Rings book series, written by J.R.R. Tolkien. It was an honest and gentle role and Wood’s performance was terrific. He later opted for roles in movies which were more eclectic and low-key, intentionally dodging the spotlight.
