DiCaprio: “We have to do films about the darker nature of us”

Famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio has found himself in a situation where he has to defend his new movie The Wolf of Wall Street.

Critics accused DiCaprio, along with Martin Scorsese, of glorifying the criminal Belfort and his frauds. However, DiCaprio insists that the movie is groundbreaking, and Hollywood is obliged to explore the other side of human nature; the dark one.

The movie is based on the life of stockbroker Jordan Belford, who gained millions of dollars that funded his extravagant lifestyle by cheating his clients with investment arrangements.

DiCaprio told Sky News, “From what I understand, Belfort is not making anything from this movie, but that being said, we can’t all do films about Gandhi, you know? Without films like this there would be no Citizen Kane. Without films like this there would be no There Will Be Blood. We have to do films about the darker nature of us.”

DiCaprio also added, “None of it is really made up. To tell you the truth, even the plane crashing on the way to get him, his boat sinking, every single one of these things happened to him. None of it is glorified whatsoever.”

It seems critics made a pretty poor argument so far against the excellent movie. What’s more, we don’t remember Pacino having to speak up and defend portraying the Godfather.
