Oscar-Winning Actor Robin Williams Found Dead In Possible Suicide

Renowned actor and comedian Robin Williams (63) was found dead on Monday at his home in California.

The assistant chief deputy coroner of Marin County stated that the coroner division of the sheriff’s office suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia, but a comprehensive investigation must be completed before a final determination is made.”

Williams’ wife Susan Schneider released a statement saying: “I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”

In a statement confirming his death, Williams’ publicist said the actor “had been battling severe depression of late.”

Williams himself often spoke publicly about his struggle with substance abuse and depression.

He told ABC’s Diane Sawyer in 2011:

It’s (addiction) — not caused by anything, it’s just there. It waits. It lays in wait for the time when you think, ‘It’s fine now, I’m OK.’ Then, the next thing you know, it’s not OK. Then you realize, ‘Where am I? I didn’t realize I was in Cleveland.

Williams won an Academy Award for his role in Good Will Hunting and some of his memorable movies include Mrs. Doubtfire, Dead Poets Society, Patch Adams, Hook, Jack and Good Morning, Vietnam. He also voiced Genie in Disney’s Aladdin.
