The Independent reports that Zayn Malik is no longer a member of One Direction. Malik is officialy cut from the band’s introductory video montage that plays during concerts. The band’s first performance without Zayne was Saturday night, March 28 in Johannesburg, South Africa, when Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson took over Malik’s solos.
Malik first said that he want’s to leave the band so he can live like a normal 22-year-old. He later admitted that the main reason for leaving is his wish to start a solo career:
“I can’t do this anymore. I’m feeling quite interesting. Let’s say that.”
According to Billboard, Malik had signed with Syco, Simon Cowell’s record company, as an individual artist as well as a member of One Direction. There was a clause in the contract that provides the company to keep the singer as a solo artist in case he one day leaves a band.
