Embeth Davidtz is probably best known for her role of Helen Hirsch, a Jewish maid working for Nazi officer who falls in love with her in Schindler’s List. She also appeared in Mansfield Park, Matilda, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and Bicentennial Man and had small roles in Mad Men and Californication.

This talented actress was born in Indiana in 1965 to South African parents. When Embeth was nine, the family moved back to South Africa, where she had to learn Afrikaans before enrolling in school. She graduated from high school in Pretoria and enrolled in Rhodes University in Grahamstown, where she obtained a degree in English.

Her acting career started with Artscape in Cape Town, where she played Juliet in a production of the famous Shakespeare’s play. After this role she decided she wanted to be an actress and in 1991 she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in movies. Her first Hollywood movie was Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness.
