Although she was already a successful actor at the time, she attended Yale University, majoring in literature.
She began dating Cydney Bernard, having met her on the set of Sommersby around 1993, and mothered two children with her, Charles “Charlie” Foster, born in 1998, and Christopher “Kit” Foster, born in 2001. They split in 2008, and Foster married actress and photographer Alexandra Hedison. The two have been happy since, appearing inseparable during ceremonies and public gatherings. She also stated that having children has made her take on fewer roles – family is a priority for her.
