What was supposed to be a casual talk turned into a shocking revelation about DiCaprio’s near-death experience.

TV star Ellen DeGeneres hosted Leonardo DiCaprio on her show on Tuesday in order to discuss his recent movie The Wolf of the Wall Street.

However, during the show DiCaprio nonchalantly mentioned that back in 2006, while filming Blood Diamond, he was forced to overcome his darkest fears when he got stuck in a cage with a great white. DiCaprio admitted that he’s always had a fear of the big fish, but his shark-diving adventure almost cost him his life.

He told Ellen, “I had a huge fear of sharks, and when I did Blood Diamond in 2006 I actually got stuck in a cage with a great white, which was awesome. It was a gigantic great white… “

He then added, “They actually said [that] in 30 years this has never happened, but the tuna kind of got stuck on the top of the cage and the great white leapt out and tried to bite it and went into the cage with me.”

“Half of its body was in and [half was] out, and I flattened down at the bottom… It chomped a few times but I survived it… It was absolutely terrifying,” DiCaprio finished.

The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which is owned by the famous actor, is dedicated to protecting endangered species and the environment. In 2006, he was invited on a fundraising trip dedicated to saving sharks when the accident happened.

We’re pretty sure DiCaprio isn’t very eager to go on a similar fundraising any time soon. Or ever.
