Psy’s Gangnam Style has finally broken the Internet. And when we say the Internet, we mean YouTube.
The unbelievably successful video has had so many views on YouTube that the platform has to upgrade so people can continue to watch it.
YouTube explained the situation on its Google+ page, confessing it never expected anything like this to happen.
“We never thought a video would be watched in numbers greater than a 32-bit integer (=2,147,483,647 views), but that was before we met PSY. Gangnam Style has been viewed so many times we have to upgrade! Hover over the counter in PSY’s video to see a little math magic and stay tuned for bigger and bigger numbers on YouTube.”
Released in 2012, Gangnam style was an instant hit worldwide and Psy now has 7.5 million subscribers on his YouTube channel (which was visited more than 4 billion times since 2010).
