Leonardo DiCaprio has always been known as one of the most eco-friendly celebrities out there, and his recent donation just confirmed his status. The famous actor has donated $3 million to ocean preservation organization Oceana.

His donation is aimed to support a campaign against the use of gill nets for capturing fish off the Californian coast.

The actor issued a statement that reads, “Protecting our planet’s oceans and the marine species that call it home is one of the most pressing sustainability crises facing humanity today and a moral imperative that we must acknowledge. It’s my hope that this grant will help Oceana continue the tremendous work that they do daily on behalf of our oceans.”

Andy Sharpless, Oceana CEO, added, “The foundation and Leo’s support for campaigns like our efforts to ban the drift gill nets in California will help Oceana win more protections for countless sharks and other marine animals and for ocean habitats in the Pacific and Arctic – which include some of the most productive ocean places in the world...”

However, this isn’t DiCaprio’s first donation for a philanthropic cause. Last November, he also donated $3 million to the World Wildlife Fund.
