Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears Too Sexy For French TV

Just the other day, TV managers in France banned pop stars Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus from daytime broadcast. It seems the controversial stars are too sexy for the small screens and their music videos are not appropriate for certain French audience groups.

French media regulator CSA specified that music videos Wrecking Ball by Cyrus and Britney’s Work B**ch were televised during daytime without a parental advisory warning before the video.

On Thursday, CSA labeled Cyrus riding naked on a giant ball as “too sexually explicit”, while Spears shows “a sadomachistic universe representing women in a way that risks shocking many viewers” with whips and bondage equipment in her video.

French channels are asked to broadcast the content after 10pm, since the videos are obviously appropriate only for adults.

Since Cyrus referred to Sinead O’Connor’s Nothing Compares To U video, O’Connor wrote an open letter to the young star saying, “I am extremely concerned for you that those around you have led you to believe, or encouraged you in your own belief, that it is in any way ‘cool’ to be naked and licking sledgehammers in your videos.”

“It is in fact the case that you will obscure your talent by allowing yourself to be pimped, whether it’s the music business or yourself doing the pimping.“
