Viola Davis Brings House Down With Emmys Speech

Viola Davis made history at the Emmys last night. She became the first black actress ever to win the award for best actress in a television drama. But her speech was even greater than her win. Many celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Sean “Diddy” Combs and Oprah gave their reactions to the speech on social media.

Kerry Washington tweeted that it was the best speech of the night, DeGeneres told her that she was “spectacular,” and the list goes on.

Davis beat out very stiff competition to win the award for her role in the ABC series “How to Get Away with Murder. She beat out actress like Claire Danes, Taraji P. Henson, Tatiana Maslany, Elisabeth Moss and Robin Wright. Davis’ speech was very emotional, thanking all of the people who paved the way in Hollywood throughout history for black women in the industry. She received a standing ovation at the end, of course.
