Regardless of the fact that Jennifer Lopez hasn’t previously been involved with anyone significantly younger than her, she received a lot of bad press when she started dating backup dancer Casper Smart, who is 18 years her junior.
Sick and tired of double standards for men and women when it comes to relationships, Lopez was intent on fighting back against the unfavorable labels frequently applied to older women. Here’s what she told Ellen DeGeneres:
“I’m not after younger guys. If younger guys like me then that’s one thing. There’s like guys who just go after younger women. They have no name. No label. And you can date one person. Label.”
Rightfully defending her actions and choices, Lopez once again addressed the issue after she and Casper split. Here’s what she told People magazine:
“All the old clichés about women need to be undone. Enough already. We’re in the other position now. We are desirable older, we can date younger guys and it’s not this big taboo. Men have been doing this for years, and it’s no big deal.”
