Isaiah Washington Returning To Grey’s Anatomy After 7 Years

This is great news for Grey’s Anatomy fans! After an anti-gay slur scandal in 2006, actor Isaiah Washington is coming back to the medical drama.

In case you didn’t follow the scandal, in 2007, Isaiah was forced to leave Grey’s Anatomy after he allegedly called his gay co-star T.R. Knight an insulting homophobic word.

Even though Washington issued an apology for his “unfortunate use of words”, producers didn’t show a lot of understanding so he was thrown out at the end of season three.

Washington will portray Preston Burke in the finals of Sandra Oh’s show, while his doctor will be dating Cristina Yang, his former significant other.

The author of Grey’s Anatomy stated, “It’s important to me that Cristina’s journey unfolds exactly as it should. Burke is vital to that journey – he gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang.”

An NGO promoting the image of the LGBT population said in a statement, “His statements promoting marriage equality in recent years have sent a strong message of support for LGBT people. We look forward to seeing him return to one of our favorite shows, as well as in Patrik-Ian Polk’s moving film Blackbird about a young man coming out in a small Southern town.
