Will and Jada Smith are not going to the Oscars this year. The Hollywood power couple will be boycotting the event to protest the lack of racial diversity among this year’s nominees.
It was actually Jada Pinkett Smith who first announced that she would not be showing up to the event. But her husband is, of course, going to stand with her and stay at home that night as well. Smith said that even though he realizes that he and his wife are a part of the community, they are not comfortable with condoning the fact that only white actors were nominated this year.
The actor, who recently starred in the movie “Concussion,” said that he was floored by how passionately his wife explained her position to him. He added that he is disappointed with the fact that the Academy has not reflected the beautiful diversity of America with its nominations.
