Only a few weeks ago, Lady Gaga performed a medley of David Bowie’s songs at the Grammy awards as a means of paying tribute to the late musician, who passed away on January 10th. Now, it looks like the 2016 Brit Awards decided to honor the musician as well, with Lorde performing a medley of her own. The difference is that her band actually consisted of people who used to tour and play with Bowie himself. In fact, they were reunited after more than ten years just to perform Bowie’s songs.

Gary Oldman also had a few things to say about his late friend before the band hit the stage, stressing that Bowie’s music has given him over 40 years of extraordinary experiences. He praised Bowie for his courage and optimism, reflecting on the story of how David let him know that he had cancer, concluding that, on the bright side, he “got his cheekbones back.

Here’s how Oldman finished his speech:

“He was the sweetest soul ever . . . David, you were mortal but your potential was superhuman and your remarkable music is living on. We love you and we thank you.”
